Collection Stories: Amazing Spider-Man#141

My copy of Amazing Spider-Man#141 signed by Gerry Conway

In the blog post series called Collection Stories I will talk about something from my collection and tell you guys the story behind it.

This happened a few years ago when I was at a Half-Price Books store. I was looking through the bargain section for comic books. After looking through a few rows of comic books I couldn’t find anything I wanted. A couple more rows later and I still can’t find anything. Finally, I get to the last row and I find the copy of Amazing Spider-Man#141 (pictured above, except it wasn’t autographed at the time) for .25 cents. I kid you not I found it for a mere quarter. I couldn’t believe my eyes. As I was flipping through it I was thinking, “What on earth could the previous owner of this comic done to this to make it worth a quarter?” As I finished analyzing the book there were a few things like a cut-out coupon inside, a few bent pages, blah blah blah. I’m not a big stickler about condition when it comes to comic books unless the book is beaten up beyond the point of readable. However, that was not the case for this book so I bought it along with a few issues of Ultimate Spider-Man.

Just recently last year I was at a convention in my hometown and it just so happened that Gerry Conway (the writer of ASM#141) was going to appear at the convention. So bringing this to the convention to have him sign it was a no-brainer. I now have this issue sitting in a shelf above my bed where some other special comics are on display.

Stay tuned for more Collection Stories!!! My plan is to tell one of these stories every Wednesday, so be sure to come back next week! Thanks for reading and feel free to leave a comment!
